Most people’s dreams don’t include visiting Walmart and running into an old acquaintance who tells you the news you are a father, especially when you are engaged to someone else. “Happily Ever After” usually entails love, then marriage and then a baby carriage or at least it does in the storybooks, not an unexpected child. Broderick (last names withheld for privacy) of Buffalo, NY was no different than most people in what he dreamed of for the future. What was he going to do? His recent proposal to his fiancé, Erika was a joyous time for them both. He had given his life to the Lord only a few years back and was trying to live a Christ-like life. With this shocking news, would she still want to marry him after he told her that he now had an out-of-wedlock son? In fact, even though he just learned of this child, his son had been in this world for almost 3 years without Broderick’s knowledge of it. What was he going to do? Only His Lord and Savior knew.
Erika was a successful young career woman. She also was a strong woman of faith and had been raised by strong Christian parents. He father was even a pastor of a church. Still, she had seen enough of failed relationships with other people to not believe that life was a fairytale and that “Happily Ever After” always meant a prince, a princess and a white picket fence. Now that her fiancé, Broderick, had told her about his recently discovered son, everyone was waiting to see what she was going to do. She found herself having to decide if she wanted to be part of raising this unexpected child and the life his father could give him. She did the only thing she knew to do….pray, a lot.
Join us at youtube.com to hear Broderick and Erika share their personal story of how God redeemed their situation and helped them create a beautiful blended family breaking free from the past mistakes of previous generations. Today, they have been married 14 years, have four beautiful children and a thriving ministry leading people to a relationship with Christ.
We at Happily Ever After These Days thank Erika and Broderick for their openness and willingness to share their story of love and faith.
